Istanbul...Day One

We arrived on Wednesday evening and were scooped up at the airport by Semih. Then, we headed to their home on the European side of Istanbul...about 30 minutes away from the airport. They live in a gorgeous...lush green area...that is in my mind the "up & coming" "suburb" to live in!! It was a cheerful welcome followed by a fabulous home cooked meal by Aysun. Aras, their son, was fast asleep but we did get to sneak a peak at him in his crib!! He is adorable and has grown so big. Don't know if you remember, but he is the little person that arrived in this world on week 26 weighing less than 2 pounds. Today, he is healthy and happy & a true miracle. We threw on our jammies and sat on their wonderful balcony (this happened ALL SIX nights whether it was for dinner, drinks, tea, or dessert) and enjoyed the view and each others company. They were the best hostesses...let's just say the HOSPITALITY and taking care of their guests was RIDICULOUS and even embarrassing at times. Evidently, it's the Turkish way!! They kept saying, "When we come to visit...we'll expect the same." Thank goodness we came with a framed piece of art and a bunch of new outfits, bibs, and new blanket for Aras!! Except for the fighting over bills, "limos", and treats...it was a PERFECTLY WONDERFUL trip to visit the Batum Family!!! Actually, a chance of a lifetime to experience their country with them. I learned so much and even a few Turkish words!! Thanks Aysun, Semih and Aras...it's a vacation we will cherish forever!! You were TOO good to us!! We loved ISTANBUL and seeing your cute little family of three!!
