An article in the paper yesterday entitled...
BUILDING BOOM turns up the heat! I found it very interesting and thought I'd share a blog of facts with you:
1. May temperatures soared to their highest levels in 23 years last Tuesday.
2. Last Tuesday say daytime temperatures reach 46.3 (115.34) degrees just below the 47 all-time high record in May 1986.
3. April temperatures averaged at 32.9 (91.22) degrees, which is the coolest since 1997...(sorry Jill & Steve...told ya it was unusually cold end of March and then heated up after you left)
4. Fujairah saw temperatures jump to the highest recorded in the UAE this year, pushing past 50 (122) degrees on Sunday. It is ALWAYS warmer by four or five degrees in Fujairah.
5. The MET office revealed that Dubai's average night time temperature for the entire year has jumped up by two degrees in the last ten years.
SO...what's the deal...They say..."Concrete traps heat much more effectively than a desert. Concrete traps heat overnight." "It's impossible to say how much of the overall rise in temperature is caused by the city's development and how much is caused by global warming."
Interesting enough...back in 2000 there were just two main roads and some vegetation.
By 2009, the island (The Palm) and wave breakers are complete and the desert has been almost COMPLETELY consumed by buildings.

I don't know about global warming. We have not gotten past 75 degrees for more than a few minutes so far this Summer. Very cool start to the summer. As I type this, it is 47 degrees outside!
That is NUTS to look at the arial shot- it is totally from the building boom. CRAZY. cool crisp 62 degrees here in the Chi today. Miss you
